How To Walk in The Spirit & Keep Torah From The Heart

On October 19, 2012, in Bible Lessons, by Milton Carnes

"8 Reasons Why The Word of YAH May Not Be Working For You"

1. You don’t “SPEAK” The Word often enough.

2. You don’t “SEE” The Word often enough.

3. You don’t “HEAR” The Word all day and all night.

4. You don’t have any “EMOTIONS” attached to The Word.

5. You are living "IN SIN" either known or unknown.

6. You don't know what you really want. You are unstable as water. This is also called "BEING DOUBLE MINDED".

7. You are trying to exercise "FAITH WITHOUT WORKS”.

8. The Word of YAH is "NOT HIDDEN" in your heart.

Is this you? You read the Bible every day, you even study it while at the same time your life is still not experiencing the goodness of YAH. You are NOT at peace and you definitely NOT operating in the fruit of the spirit. There is more to The Word of YAH than just reading and studying the BOOK! Get The Word In YOU! Ahhh ... maybe you don't know how?

Most believers do not understand what it means to walk in the spirit. Here is one thing for sure; "walking in the Spirit" does not mean to walk in our own spirit.

Ezekiel 13:2 "Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to those who prophesy out of their own heart, `Hear the word of YHWH!' " [3] Thus says YHWH Alahiym: "Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!

What does it mean to walk in the spirit?

John 4:21-24
[21] Yahusha said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. [22] You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. [23] But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. [24] The Most High is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. [25] The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming”. “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” [26] Yahusha said to her, “I who speak to you am He.”

Romans 8:4
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Romans 6:18
Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness.

Isaiah 51:7
Listen to me, you that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear you not the reproach of men, neither be you afraid of their revilings. Walking in righteousness (keeping YAH's laws) is also the same as walking after the spirit.

Before we begin, we must define three words.

Walk (an action verb or something that you do)

Spirit (in Greek)

Spirit (in Hebrew)

What is the heart of man?

Deuteronomy 4:29 (Amplified Bible)
But if from there you will seek (inquire for and require as necessity) YAH your Alahiym, you will find Him if you [truly] seek Him with all your heart [and mind] and soul and life.

Proverbs 4:23
Keep and guard your heart (what you hear, see, think, speak, and do) with all your might consistently, diligently, and constantly, for out of the heart flows all of the issues you experience in life whether it is good or bad.

By nature our heart responds to emotions/feelings and repetitions. YAH has built this into us as humans. How do we know this? Well, just look at how we operate in nature. Cause a child to become emotional, and then constantly tell him or her that they will never succeed in life. This will become their thinking from their heart. This programming will follow him or her for the rest of their life unless it is changed.

Your heart has been programmed with many things that may not be favorable for your lifestyle now such as money issues, health issues, relationship issues, educational issues, emotional issues even issues in following The Word of YAH!

Defining The Heart

Heart (in Hebrew)

Heart (in Greek)

And YAH said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened; he refuseth to let the people go. ( Stubbornness comes from the heart)

Deuteronomy 4:9
Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, unless you forget the things which your eyes have seen, and unless they depart from your heart all the days of your life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; (Awareness through repetition has a profound effect upon the heart so that you will not forget to do)

Deuteronomy 11:18
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. (The word can be put into your heart)

Deuteronomy 28:67
In the morning thou shalt say, Would Alahiym it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would Alahiym it were morning! for the fear of thine heart wherewith thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see. (Emotion from the heart called fear) YAH has not given you a spirit of fear!

Joshua 2:11
And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for YAH your Alahiym, he is Alahiym in heaven above, and in earth beneath. (Emotions from the heart again)

1 Kings 11:4
For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other Alahiyms: and his heart was not perfect with YAH his Alahiym, as was the heart of David his father. (Other people can change your heart)

Psalm 9:1
I will praise thee, O YAH, with my whole heart; I will show forth all your marvelous works. (True praise comes from the heart)

Luke 6:45
The upright (honorable, intrinsically good) man out of the good treasure [stored] in his heart produces what is upright (honorable and intrinsically good), and the evil man out of the evil storehouse brings forth that which is depraved (wicked and intrinsically evil); for out of the abundance (overflow) of the heart his mouth speaks (We speak from the heart what we really feel)

Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Where do you put your extra money? Is it into the things of YAH?)

Putting It All Together

Galatians 5
[16] This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

[17] For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that you would.

[18] But if you are led of the Spirit, you are not under the law.

[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest (outwardly in actions), which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness (Given to or expressing lust through sexual desires),

[20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance (A difference between what is expected and what actually occurs), emulations (to rival or compete with), wrath (punishment or vengeance as a manifestation of anger), strife (Heated, often violent discord; bitter conflict), seditions (Conduct or language inciting rebellion against the authority of a state), heresies (an act of following doctrines that are contrary to The Word of The Most High),

[21] Envyings (A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another), murders, drunkenness, revellings (To take great pleasure or delight in excessive partying), and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things SHALL NOT inherit the kingdom of YAH.

[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, [23] Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. [24] And they that are The Messiah's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. [25] If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Romans 8
[1] There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in The Messiah Yahusha, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [2] For the law of the Spirit of life in The Messiah Yahusha hath made me free from the law of sin and death. [3] For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, YHWH sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: [4] That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. [5] For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
If you are in the flesh (things of this world; carnally minded; living in sin) you keep your mind focused on things of the flesh. Likewise, if your mind is on the things of the spirit (the law, commandments, YAH) then you will produce the fruit of the Spirit.

Remember this, YAH is spirit and those that worship him must worship in spirit and in truth!

Romans 7:14
For we know that the law is spiritual (mentally doing the law; a mindset): but I am carnal, sold under sin.

Galatians 6:6-8

6 Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things. 7 Be not deceived; Alahiym is not mocked (made fun of): for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

Isaiah 26:3 YAH will keep you in perfect peace if your mind is stayed on him.

Romans 8:6-10
[6] For to be carnally (lust of the flesh; sinful) minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. [7] Because the carnal mind is enmity (hatred) against YHWH: for it is not subject to the law of YHWH, neither indeed can be. [8] So then they that are in the flesh (mind on things of this world) cannot please YHWH. [9] But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of YHWH dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of The Messiah, he is none of his. [10] And if The Messiah (The Word of Truth) be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

The Spirit of YHWH dwells in you because his Word dwells in you because you have put "The Word" in you. See Psalms 119:11

Romans 13:8
Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. [9] For the commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not bear false witness," "You shall not covet," and if [there] [is] any other commandment, are [all] summed up in this saying, namely, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." [10] Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love [is] the fulfillment of the law. [11] And [do] this, knowing the time, that now [it] [is] high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation [is] nearer than when we [first] believed. [12] The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. [13] Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. [14] But put on the Master Yahusha the Messiah (The Word), and make no provision for the flesh, to [fulfill] [its] lusts.

Ephesians 2:2
Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience: [3] Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling <the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

1 Peter 4
[1] Therefore, since the Messiah suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, [2] that he no longer should live the rest of [his] time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of YHWH. [3] For we [have] [spent] enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles--when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties, and abominable idolatries. [4] In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with [them] in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of [you]. [5] They will give an account to Him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? [25] I thank YHWH--through Yahusha the Messiah our Master! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of YHWH, but with the flesh the law of sin.

It is very clear that "walking in the Spirit" is the complete opposite of "lusting in the flesh". Lusting after the flesh is sin and breaking of the commandments of YHWH. Therefore we could also say that "walking in the Spirit" is the same as walking in righteousness and truth. We have also discovered that "walking in the Spirit" has something to do with keeping יְהֹוָה's laws in the mind and the heart.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that makes alive; the flesh profits nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life.

There is a definite connection between The Spirit & The Heart, but at the same time there is a difference. The Spirit is affected by the heart. Who we are is determined by our spirit but access to our spirit comes through the heart and access to the heart comes through our mind.

1 Samuel 12
[19] And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto YHWH your Alahiym, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king. [20] And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not: you have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following YHWH, but serve YHWH with all your heart; [21] And turn you not aside: for then should you go after vain things, which cannot profit nor deliver; for they are vain. [22] For YHWH will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased YHWH to make you his people. [23] Moreover as for me, Alahiym forbid that I should sin against YHWH in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way: [24] Only fear YHWH, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he has done for you. [25] But if you shall still do wickedly, you shall be consumed, both ye and your king.

1 Corinthians 3:16
[16] Do you not know that you are the temple of YHWH and that the Spirit of YHWH dwells in you?

Romans 8
[14] For as many as are led by the Spirit of YHWH, they are the sons of YHWH. [15] For you have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [16] The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit (your spirit), that we are the children of YHWH:

Ephesians 3
[16] That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; [17] That The Messiah (The Word) may dwell in your hearts by faith (faith comes by hearing Romans 10:17); that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

The fruit of the Spirit is about having a spiritual mindset. We develop a spiritual mindset by thinking about the things of YAH; his laws, statutes, commandments, and judgments. With the mind (being spiritually minded), we see, hear, feel, speak, meditate on, and think about the word of YAH constantly.

How Do We Get A Spiritual Mindset?

Hear "The Word" Constantly & Consistently

Proverbs 10:28 The hope (expectation) of the righteous (the upright, in right standing with YHWH by keeping his law) is gladness (JOY), but the expectation of the wicked (those who are out of harmony with The Most High) comes to nothing.

The Messiah said, "Everything is possible for the one who
believes." Mark 9:23

And The Messiah also said .....

Go your way; and as you have believed, so be it done to you. Matthew 8:13

According to your faith be it to you. Matthew 9:29

In other words ...
What you believe 'right now'... is happening to you NOW!
What you believe 'will happen to you' ... is happening to you NOW!

The Book of Hebrews clarifies The Messiah's words ....

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for (belief in what is possible), the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Faith (belief in what is possible) comes by hearing The Word of The Most High Romans 10:17

Hearing is a progressive verb which means constantly and consistently! In other words, not just once or twice but all the time .... 24/7 every minute of the day!

Mark 4:24 Amplified
And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you--and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.

2 Corinthians 9:6
He who sows sparingly (being spiritually minded) shall reap also sparingly; and he who sows bountifully (being spiritually minded) shall reap also bountifully.

Mediate on The Word Constantly & Consistently

Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.

Psalm 1
[1] BLESSED (HAPPY, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather. [2] But his delight and desire are in the law of YAH, and on His law (the precepts, the instructions, the teachings of God) he habitually meditates (ponders and studies) by day and by night.

What is meditation? Webster Dictionary states that meditation is to engage in contemplation or reflection of, to focus one's thoughts, to reflect or ponder over, to plan or project in the mind.

Think: to form or have in the mind, to have as an opinion, to regard as or consider, to reflect on or ponder, to determine by reflecting, to call to mind or remember, to center ones thoughts on or form a mental picture of, to have in the mind engaged in reflection, to consider.

Reflect: to think quietly and calmly.

Ponder: to weigh in the mind, to think about, reflect on, to think about - esp quietly, soberly and deeply.

Also, according to Webster, the words Ponder, Meditate, Muse, and Ruminate are synonyms and mean to consider or examine attentively or deliberately. PONDER implies a careful weighing of a problem or, often, prolonged inconclusive thinking about a matter; MEDITATE implies a definite focusing of one's thoughts on something as to understand it deeply; muse suggests a more or less focused daydreaming as in remembrance; RUMINATE implies going over the same matter in one's thoughts again and again but suggests little of either purposive thinking or rapt absorption.

Meditation is a function of the mind and the heart. It is what we think about in our hearts and it is something we each do every day. Whether we realize it or not, we all spend a large portion of our time in some form of meditation. The thing is, what we meditate on may or may not be leading us to YAH's Kingdom. In fact, what we habitually think about is frequently sinful. This is why it is a good idea to spend some time making notes about what you think about. This is the first step in the process of training ourselves to think correctly.

Let us look at what the Bible says about meditation or to meditate:

2 Timothy 2:7 Reflect on what I am saying, for YAH will give you insight into all this.

Psalms 19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O YAH, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Psalms 48:9 Within your temple, O Alahiym, we meditate on your unfailing love.

Psalms 77:12 I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.

Psalms 119:23 I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees.

Psalms 119:27 Let me understand the teaching of your precepts; then I will meditate on your wonders.

Psalms 119:48 I lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and I meditate on your decrees.

Psalms 119:78 May the arrogant be put to shame for wronging me without cause; but I will meditate on your precepts.

Psalms 119:97 Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long.

Psalms 119:99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

Psalms 119:148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.

Psalms 143:5 I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.

Psalms 145:5 They will speak of the glorious splendour of your majesty, and I will meditate on your wonderful works.

Psalms 104:34 May my meditation be pleasing to him, as I rejoice in YAH.

Philippians 4
[4] Rejoice in YAH always: and again I say, Rejoice. [5] Let your moderation be known unto all men. YAH is at hand. [6] Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto YAH [7] And the peace of YAH, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through The Messiah Yahusha. [8] Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true (The Word), whatsoever things are honest (The Word), whatsoever things are just (The Word), whatsoever things are pure (The Word), whatsoever things are lovely (The Word), whatsoever things are of good report (The Word); if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (King James Version)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of The Most High, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of The Messiah; (Constantly being aware of every thought in order to change it as it comes into your mind)

See The Word Constantly & Consistently

Deuteronomy 6 (Amplified)
[4] Hear, O Israel: YAH our Alahiym is [the only Master]. [5] And you shall love YAH your Alahiym with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being and with all your might. [6] And these words which I am commanding you this day shall be [first] in your [own] minds and hearts; [then] [7] You shall whet and sharpen them so as to make them penetrate, and teach and impress them diligently upon the [minds and] hearts of your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up. [8] And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets (forehead bands) between your eyes. [9] And you shall write them upon the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Psalm 101
I WILL sing of mercy and loving-kindness and justice; to You, O Master, will I sing. [2] I will behave myself wisely and give heed to the blameless way--O when will You come to me? I will walk within my house in integrity and with a blameless heart. [3] I will set no base or wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of them who turn aside [from the right path]; it shall not grasp hold of me. [4] A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil person or thing.

Speak The Word Constantly & Consistently

Deuteronomy 30 (Amplified Bible)
[10] If you obey the voice of YAH your Alahiym, to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to YAH your Alahiym with all your [mind and] heart and with all your being. [11] For this commandment which I command you this day is not too difficult for you, nor is it far off. [12] It is not [a secret laid up] in heaven, that you should say, Who shall go up for us to heaven and bring it to us, that we may hear and do it? [13] Neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, Who shall go over the sea for us and bring it to us, that we may hear and do it?
[14] But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your mind and in your heart, so that you can do it.

Why is all of this important? Walking in the Spirit is something that we do!

Repetitive hearing, speaking, seeing and meditating on The Word produce thoughts, images, and internal self talk of The Word

Repetitive self talk, images and thoughts of The Word produce automated patterns of thinking in your heart about The Word of YAH.

Automated patterns of thinking in your heart produce your beliefs (faith), attitudes, values, feelings about the Word of YAH

Beliefs (faith), attitudes, values, and feelings produce the fruit of the spirit, actions, choices, and decisions based upon The Word of YAH.

Your actions which include your choices and decisions produce the issues you experience in life. Your daily habit of walking in the spirit will determine your destiny in The Kingdom of YAH.

The “Good News” Of The Kingdom

On October 16, 2012, in Bible Lessons, by Milton Carnes

Mark 16:15-18
15 And he said unto them, Go you into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

John 14:6
Yahusha saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes to the Father, but by me.

John 8:31-32
31 Then said Yahusha to those Jews (Yahudim) which believed on him, If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

What Is This Truth That Will Make Us Free?

Acts 10:34-36
34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that Alahiym is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that fears him, and works righteousness, is accepted with him.36 The word which Alahiym sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Yahusha The Messiah

This Message of Peace

Luke 4:14-19
14 And Yahusha returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.15 And he taught in their synagogues, being exalted of all.16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Isaiah . And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,18 The Spirit of YAH is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty (freedom) them that are bruised,19 To preach the acceptable year (will and desire in this year) of YAH.

Acts 10:37-49
37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 How Alahiym anointed Yahusha of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for Alahiym was with him. (#1 Anointed with power from The Holy Spirit)

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom hey slew and hanged on a tree: (#2. His death and the shedding of his blood for without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin)

40 Him Alahiym raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; (#3 The resurrection conquering death)

42 And he commanded us to preach (this same message of peace) to the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of Alahiym to be the Judge of living and dead.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believes in him shall receive remission of sins. (#4 Power & Authority through believing in his name; YAH's Salvation or Yahusha or Our Redeemer)

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them which heard the word. (#5 The gift of The Holy Spirit)

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Spirit as well as we?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of YAH.

Galatians 3:13-14 & 22-29
13 The Messiah hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Yahusha The Messiah; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Yahusha The Messiah might be given to them that believe (through Baptism/Full Immersion). 23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto The Messiah, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 For you are all the children of Alahiym by faith in The Messiah Yahusha. 27 For as many of you as have been immersed into The Messiah have put on The Messiah. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in The Messiah Yahusha. 29 And if you be The Messiah’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Galatians 4:1-7
1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be master of all; 2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. 3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: 4 But when the fulness of the time was come, Alahiym sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, Alahiym hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 Wherefore you are no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of Alahiym through The Messiah.

Finally, if The Messiah has redeemed us from the curse of the law through his blood by way of baptism (full immersion in water), then that would mean that we have chosen life and now we are walking in the blessings of the law (see Deuteronomy 28:1-14). That is the GOOD NEWS OF THE KINGDOM or THE GOSPEL! We are no longer under the law of sin and death.

Why Do I Need To Be Baptized?

On October 14, 2012, in Bible Lessons, by Milton Carnes

Baptism (Full Immersion) In The Old Testament

1 Peter 3:20-22

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the long-suffering of Alahiym waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 21 The like figure whereunto even Baptism (Full Immersion) doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Alahiym, by the resurrection of Yahusha The Messiah:

1 Corinthians 10:1-4
1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all (immersed) unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was The Messiah.

The Gospel of Yahusha and Immersion In His Name

Acts 2:37-38
37 "Now when they heard this (The Gospel) they were cut to the heart , and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?" 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized (immersed) every one of you in the name of Yahusha The Messiah for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:12
"But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning THE KINGDOM OF AlAHIYM AND THE NAME OF YAHUSHA THE MESSIAH, both men and women WERE BAPTIZED."

Acts 19:3-5
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye (immersed)? And they said, Unto John's Baptism (Full Immerson). 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized (immersed) with the Baptism (Full Immersion) of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on The Messiah, Yahusha. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized (immersed) in the name of Yahusha

Forgiveness Of Sins
Forgiveness of sins is part of the blessing of Baptism (Full Immersion) to all those who would accept this offer from Alahiym and His Son. (Acts 2:38, 22:16)

Baptism (Full Immerson) as a symbol
Baptism (Full Immersion) is also presented as a symbol of Yahusha's death, burial and resurrection. (Colossians 2:12; Romans 6:3-4) When we go down into the waters of Baptism (Full Immersion) we are enacting Yahusha' death and coming out of the water we are symbolizing His resurrection.

The New Covenant In Yahusha' Blood
Yahusha' death and shed blood was the means by which He confirmed or established what is known as the New or everlasting Covenant in His blood. (Luke 22:15-20; Hebrews 13:20)

When we are baptized (immersed), we are then participants in the New (Renewed) Covenant, having forgiveness of sins and a hope of eternal life in Alahiym's Kingdom.

The Blood That Cleanse Us

Revelations 1:5 And from Yahusha The Messiah, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood

1John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Yahusha The Messiah his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

1 Peter 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of The Messiah, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 Peter 3:21The like figure whereunto even Baptism (Full Immersion) doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Alahiym by the resurrection of Yahusha The Messiah:

Hebrews 9:14 How much more shall the blood of The Messiah, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to Alahiym, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living Alahiym?

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Spirit hath made you overseers, to feed the church of Alahiym, which he hath purchased with his own blood

Romans 6:3-4 Know ye not, that so many of us as were (immersed) into Yahusha The Messiah were baptized (immersed) into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by Baptism (Full Immersion) into death: that like as The Messiah was raised up from the dead by the exaltation of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life

Colossians 2:12 Buried with him in Baptism (Full Immersion), wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of Alahiym, who hath raised him from the dead.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all (immersed) into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit;

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water (cleansed by the blood).

2 Corinthians 4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the master Yahusha, and by the Spirit of our Alahiym.

Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word

John 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

Galatians 3:13-14 & 22-29

13 The Messiah hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Yahusha The Messiah; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Yahusha The Messiah might be given to them that believe (through Baptism/Full Immersion).23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto The Messiah, that we might be justified by faith.25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

26 For ye are all the children of Alahiym by faith in The Messiah Yahusha.27 For as many of you as have been (immersed) (Immersed) into The Messiah have put on The Messiah.28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in The Messiah Yahusha. 29 And if ye be The Messiah's, then are you Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

6 And because ye are sons, Alahiym hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of Alahiym through The Messiah.

The Example:

Matthew 3:13-17 (Hebrew To English Version)
then came Yahusha from Galilee to the Jordan; and baptizing (immersing) themselves all the people, also Yahusha baptized (immersed) himself. and immediately when he went up from the water, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the spirit of YAH descending upon him; and lo, a voice out of the heavens, saying, you are my son, today I have begotten you.

Teach Me How To Pray

On October 8, 2012, in Bible Lessons, by Milton Carnes

As far as I can tell through my research, there is no commandment to pray in the first five books of Torah. But, there are examples of prayers in the book of Psalms. Alahiym spoke directly to the patriarchs and then to the prophets. Now, we can speak to him directly through the name of Yahusha and his Set Apart Spirit; the advocates.

Teach us how to pray:

Matthew 6- After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name (bless the name).10 - Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. (Pray for his coming kingdom) 11 - Give us this day our daily bread. (all the things you need for this day both physical and spiritual) 12 - And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors (ask for the forgiveness of sins for others as well as yourself). 13 - And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: (protect us from being tempted and the evil one) For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever (praise, honor and exaltation of Alahiym).

James 5:16 - Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Effective Prayers:
"Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, he hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him." (1 John 5:14)

Yah hears the prayers of the righteous

Ineffective Prayers: Doubt

James 1:5 - If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of YAH, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 - But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 - For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from YAH; 8 - he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Hebrews 11:6 - But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to YAH must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Ineffective Prayers: Not hearing YAH's word will hinder our prayers

Proverbs 28:9 - He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

Zechariah 7:12 - Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which YAH of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from YAH of hosts. 13 - Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith YAH of hosts:

Isaiah 59:1-2
1 Behold, YAHUH's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities (lawlessness) have separated between you and your Alahiym, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

Ineffective Prayers: Wrong attitude and intentions:
James 4:2 - You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. 3 - You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend [it] on your pleasures.

Inefffective Prayers: Drama Filled Husband-Wife Relationships

1 Peter 3:1-7 King James Version (KJV)

1 Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear. 3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of Alahiym of great price. 5 For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in Alahiym, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: 6 Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him master: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. 7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.

Ineffective Prayer: Not in YAH's will

1John 5:14 - Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Ineffective Prayers: Hypocritical Prayers

Matthew 6:5 - And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

Ineffective Prayers: Praying while in a state of sleepiness

Matthew 26:40 - And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Kepha, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 41 - Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Psalms 66:18 - If I regard iniquity in my heart, YAH will not hear me:

Ineffective Prayers: Unforgiveness

Mark 11:25 - And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Prayers are like an incense offering to YAH:

Revelations 5:8 - Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

Psalms 141:2 - Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

How We Should Pray:

Ecclesiastes 5:1 - Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of Alahiym, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil. 2 - Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before Alahiym: for Alahiym is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

Matthew 6:7 - But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. 8 - Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

John 17:1 - These words spake Yahusha, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: He knelt down:

Luke 22:41 - And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, He also fell on His face..

Matthew 26:39 - And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

Deuteronomy 9:25 - Thus I fell down before YAH forty days and forty nights, as I fell down at the first; because YAH had said he would destroy you.

1Chronicles 21:16 - And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of YAH stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

Lifting our hands:

1Timothy 2:8 - I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

2 Chronicles 6:13 - For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,

When To Pray Examples

1 Thessalonians 5:17 - Pray without ceasing. (This is not literal but we should always be in a state of readiness to pray at anytime).

Acts 3:1 - Now Kepha and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour (about 3 hours before sunset).

Daniel 9:21 - Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer (praying out loud), even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation (The 9th hour).

Daniel 6:10 - Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his Alahiym, as he did aforetime.

Ezra 9:4 - Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the Alahiym of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice. 5 - And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto YAH my Alahiym.

1 Kings 18:36 - And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that EliYah the prophet came near, and said, YAH Alahiym of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art Alahiym in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

Luke 1:10 - And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense (9th hour). 11 - And there appeared unto him an angel of YAH standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

Luke 23:44 - And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. 45 - And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. 46 - And when Yahusha had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the Spirit.

Psalms 55:16 - As for me, I will call upon Alahiym; and YAH shall save me.17- Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.

Acts 10:1 - There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band, 2 - A devout man, and one that feared Alahiym with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to Alahiym alway. 3 - He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of YAH coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

Acts 10:30 - And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing

Psalms 86:3 - Be merciful unto me, O YAH: for I cry (pray) unto thee daily.

Be Thankful In Prayer:

John 6:11 - And Yahusha took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.

Deuteronomy 8:10 - When thou hast eaten and art full, then thou shalt bless YAH thy Alahiym for the good land which he hath given thee.

Pray at any time

Psalms 119:147 - I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word.

Acts 16:25 - And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto YAH: and the prisoners heard them.

Psalms 88:13 - But unto thee have I cried, O YAH; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.

Mark 1:35 - And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.

Praying In A Private Place

Luke 5:16 - And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.

Matthew 6:6 - But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Corporate Prayer

Acts 4:23 - And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. 24 - And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to YAH with one accord, and said, YAH, thou art Alahiym, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: 25 - Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? 26 - The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against YAH, and against his Messiah. 27 - For of a truth against thy holy child Yahusha, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, 28 - For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. 29 - And now, YAH, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, 30 - By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Yahusha. 31 - And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spake the word of YAH with boldness.

Matthew 18:20 - For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

Fasting & Praying In Difficult Situations/Circumstances

Psalm 35:13
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled (same as afflict) my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.

Daniel 9:3
And I set my face unto YAH Alahiym, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

Matthew 17:21
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

Mark 9:29
And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.

Luke 2:37
And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

1 Corinthians 7:5
Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

Why Fasting?
We fast & pray to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke

Isaiah 58:1-8
1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.

2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their God: they ask of me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching to Alahiym.

3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.

4 Behold, ye fast for strife and debate, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye shall not fast as ye do this day, to make your voice to be heard on high.

5 Is it such a fast that I have chosen? a day for a man to afflict his soul? is it to bow down his head as a bulrush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to YAHUH?

6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?

Finally, Mark 11:24

22 And Yahusha answering saith unto them, Have faith in Alahiym.

23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire (what is it that you really want), when ye pray, believe that ye receive them (faith), and ye shall have them (The Promise).

25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses (sins).
